Abstract:In vitro antioxidant activity of methanolic extract of aerial parts of Salvia splendens was determined by DPPH free radical scavenging, hydrogen peroxide scavenging and superoxide anion scavenging assays. Ascorbic acid and butylated hydroxyl anisole were used as standard antioxidants for the analysis. All the analysis was made with the use of UV–Visible spectrophotometer (Schimadzu uv-vis 1700). The methanolic extract of aerial parts of Salvia splendens had shown very significant DPPH (1, 1, Diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl) radical scavenging, hydrogen peroxide scavenging, and superoxide anion scavenging activity compared to standard antioxidants. The Ic50 values of methanolic extract in DPPH radical scavenging, hydrogen peroxide scavenging and superoxide anion scavenging assays are found to be 460 ?g/ml, 358 ?g/ml and 527?g /ml respectively
