Abstract: Capparis sepiaria (L.) R.Br. known to the Palliyar as Muruvilikodi is an important medicinal plant. The Palliyar tribe, inhabitants of the Saduragiri hills, Western Ghats, Tamil Nadu, India. use fresh bark, stem and leaves of this plant to treat eczema, dandruff and to reduce the body heat. The present investigation deals with the pharmacognostic studies of the root and stem of the said plant. Pharmacognostic studies include microscopic, physicochemical constant (ash and extractive valves), Fluorescence analysis and preliminary phytochemical evaluations.
