Abstract

Peristrophe bicalyculata (Acanthaceae) is upto 60-180 cm in height and found almost throughout India, Afghanistan and
Africa. It is commonly known as kali aghedi in Hindi and kakajangha in Sanskrit. The herb is used for its anti-bacterial
property (tuberculostatic), snake poison, in bone fracture, sprain, fever, cold, cough and for ear and eye treatments. The
chemical composition of the dried aerial parts showed 14-methyl-tritriacont-14-en-15-ol and 35-hydroxynonatriacontanal.
In this review we have explored the detailed pharmacognostical study of stem and leaf as well as physicochemical
